Fall 2004 Announcement

Beginning October 15th, The Lyons Community Foundation grant applications will be available at Piper Funeral Home or you may request an application by phone or mail. If you have a project that will ‘improve the quality of life’ in our community, pick up an application: you can’t receive a grant if you don’t apply for one. Completed applications must be returned by December 1st.

The maximum amount awarded to a single project will be $2,500 again this year. Grants will be voted on and awarded, by Foundation members, at the Foundation annual membership meeting.

If you wish to participate in this decision making process, become a member of the Foundation by sending $25.00 to the Lyons Community Foundation at P. O. Box 182, Lyons, Nebraska 68038. Then mark you calendar to attend the January 26, 2005 meeting. Of course it will also be possible to cast an absentee ballot, as in past years.

Two positions on the board of directors are to be voted on at that same meeting. If you would be interested on serving in one of these four years positions, contact a member of the current board of directors or contact the Foundation by mail.

Board of directors meetings are generally held the first Monday of each month. The next meeting will be held at the Farm and Home meeting room at 5:30 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2004. Guests are always welcome.

Grant dollars are generated from dividends derived from the Foundation Endowment Fund. Its assets are never spent, guaranteeing a perpetual source of grant dollars for community improvements.

With financial sources dwindling, due to governmental belt tightening, the need for local funding from sources, such as the Lyons Community Foundation, will become more important in the future. Consider an investment in the future of Lyons by contributing to the Foundation. A contribution for as little as $1.00 can make a difference. $1,000 contributions permit an inscription to be added to the Founders Plaque located at the Lyons City Auditorium. For more detailed information on ways of contributing to the future of Lyons while planning for your own, drop us a note, talk to one of our directors or visit our web site under organizations on the Lyons page at www.fremont-online.com/lyons or the newer web site at www.cityoflyons.net.
